2022/23 Premier League Breakout Stars Pt 4: The Up And Coming Players Who Could Shine This Season

After looking at the potential breakout stars at Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United last week, we now move on to our next four teams.

It is by no means easy establishing yourself as a key first-team player in the Premier League, especially when there is so much competition for places.

However, our list today is comprised of youngsters who have already shown that they do have the ability to make it at the highest level.

Press the next page as we name the players who could make a name for themselves at Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Tottenham this season.

Sven Botman – Newcastle

The Dutch international was linked with the likes of Liverpool and Serie A champions AC Milan so Newcastle did well to secure the signing of the defender from Lille for £31m.

Adapting to the Premier League is, however, particularly challenging for centre-backs, so we shall see if Botman has the pace, anticipation and positional play to make it in England’s top tier.

Morgan Gibbs-White – Nottingham Forest

Forest have taken a gamble by paying so much for the attacking midfielder but the £42.5m could turn out to be money well spent if he does help the Midlands club stay up this campaign.

Gibbs-White was a standout performer during a loan spell with Sheffield United last season and, while it is a big step up to the Premier League, he possesses the ability to make things happen in the final third.

Armel Bella-Kotchap – Southampton

The promising young centre-back was signed by the Saints from German side Bochum in July and he has already made strides to becoming a regular starter, despite only being 20 years of age.

After being benched for the 4-1 defeat to Tottenham on the opening day, Bella-Kotchap has played the full 90 minutes in Southampton’s last two league games versus Leeds and Leicester.

Djed Spence – Tottenham

The early signs are ominous for the young fullback. Manager Antonio Conte has already said that the player wasn’t his signing, and the defender has been omitted from two matchday squads.

However, Spence has plenty of ability (as he showed during his loan spell at Nottingham Forest) so there is a chance that he could win over Conte and become an important first-team player going forward.
