5 Players With The Most Assists In The Premier League This Season

Riyad Mahrez running

All eyes are currently on the top goal scorer in the Premier League – none other than Erling Haaland. But what about the top assist makers?

Assists can often be far more impressive than the goals they set up. For example, who could forget the defence-splitting passes that Mesut Ozil used to fire off?

In this list, we’ll be looking at the five players in the Premier League with the highest assist tallies – you’ll see players from Arsenal, Manchester City and Leicester City in this piece.

In the case of a tie, we will give priority to the player with the higher goals tally. How can these five Premier League superstars assist you?

Riyad Mahrez

Up first is Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, who has nine assists to his name in the Premier League this season. He uses clever movement and slick dribbling to fire in wicked crosses – there are few better in the world at it than the Algerian trickster.

Mahrez first rose to prominence at Leicester City, where he played a pivotal role in their unprecedented title-winning campaign in 2015/16 – following this, a couple of years later, he joined the Citizens for a fee of £60 million.

He has also been a standout performer for his native Algeria. Since 2014, he has won 81 caps for his country, scoring a total of 29 international goals.

James Maddison

Where would Leicester City be without James Maddison this season? He has been a consistent ray of light in a thoroughly gloomy campaign for the Foxes.

Like Mahrez, Maddison has also registered nine Premier League assists this season. However, we’ve placed him above the City winger, due to his superior goal tally (10 to Mahrez’s five).

With Maddison’s quick feet, keen passing eye and desire to get forward, he draws many comparisons to a prime Paul Gascoigne. Leicester may be on the verge of relegation, but it’s extremely doubtful that Maddison will be following them into the Championship.

Leandro Trossard

The only player on this list to have played for two clubs this season – after a solid start to the year at Brighton and Hove Albion, Leandro Trossard has really blossomed after moving to Arsenal.

Thus far, Trossard has picked up 10 Premier League assists this season, alongside eight goals. The adaptable attacking midfielder is a brilliant dribbler – he also also possesses excellent movement off the ball.

Trossard spent seven years at Genk before being snapped up by Brighton – from there, after a series of impressive season, Arsenal headhunted the 28-year-old Belgian.

Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka is arguably England’s greatest young talent at this point in time. His powerful runs, combined with his breakneck pace and sublime dribbling skills make him a nightmare even the greatest of fullbacks.

In the current league season, Saka has accumulated a total of 11 assists. This is, however, eclipsed by his goals tally, which stands at 13.

Saka is the greatest player to come out of Arsenal’s academy for well over a decade. Despite initially beginning life as a left-back, he has made the role of right winger his own over the past few seasons.

Kevin De Bruyne

Is Kevin De Bruyne the greatest Premier League midfielder of all time? He’s certainly within the top three – the mercurial Belgian can do it all.

His assist tally for the current season blows everyone else’s completely out of the water – De Bruyne has set up 16 goals this season.

Additionally, he has also scored seven goals of his own. His passing and vision are simply unrivalled in the modern game – very few players can even touch him.
