£40M Rated Chelsea Star ‘Keen To Join’ City But Deal Could Depend On Gundogan’s Future

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is “keen to join” Manchester City this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The English newspaper claims that the Croatian international is prepared to leave Stamford Bridge after five years, with the player having just twelve months left on his contract.

City, along with Manchester United and Liverpool, have been keeping tabs on Kovacic’s situation, but it appears a switch to the Etihad Stadium would be his preference.

The reigning Premier League champions are not currently in a position to make a move for the 29-year-old yet, though, with the futures of a number of midfielders still up in the air.

Captain Ilkay Gundogan could leave on a free transfer but there are reports that he may reconsider his future and remain at the club. If that were to happen, an approach for Kovacic would become less likely.

However, Kalvin Phillips and, potentially, Bernardo Silva could also be sold, which could pave the way for Kovacic. Chelsea are said to be holding out for a fee between £30m and £40m for the Croatian.
