Manchester City are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon left-back Nuno Mendes, according to reports in the English media.

It is believed that the Citizens have already held talks with the 18-year-old’s agent, Miguel Pinho, with the club said to be lining up an offer in the region of €60m (£51.7m).

City are thought to be prepared to pay around £44.3m up front, as well as including defender Pedro Porro as part of the deal. Fans on Twitter are split on whether Mendes would be worth the investment:

There have been other reports that have dismissed City’s interest in the player, but supporters would be wise to keep an open mind. Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has also recently said that the club are keeping tabs on the player, while Pep Guardiola is clearly in need of a new left-back.

Mendes is also an in-demand player, with Liverpool and Arsenal having been linked in recent months, so we shall see how this transfer plays out.
