83% Of Manchester City Fans Polled Are Confident That Club Can Secure Key Figure To Long Term Contract

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola‘s current contract at the Etihad Stadium expires at the end of next season and while the Spaniard has said he is open to staying for longer, there have been questions raised about when he will sign a new deal.

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit, who played alongside Guardiola for one season at Barcelona, says you can’t rule out the 49-year-old leaving the Citizens due to the club’s current ban from European competitions:

“I think that could be an option for him [quitting City in the summer due to the Champions League ban]. It could be an opportunity for him to step back and have some rest. It wasn’t a long time ago that he seemed clearly tired of being manager.”

Supporters are, however, a lot more confident that Guardiola will be staying, with 8 in 10 saying in our poll that he will put pen to paper on a new contract:

Part of that confidence is down to the fact that Guardiola has made no public utterances that suggest he is unhappy at City. In fact, he has gone out of his way on several occasions in recent months suggesting he is enjoying life at the club. Fans will be hoping UEFA’s ban will have no bearing on his future whatsoever.
