Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is “a huge admirer” of Chelsea right-back Reece James, according to The Athletic‘s Simon Johnson.
The former Chelsea correspondent for the Evening Standard is usually very reliable so it looks as though the Citizens do genuinely hold an interest in the England international:

It is believed James caught Guardiola’s attention in the matches between City and the Blues last season and he is now very keen to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.
Considering he is a regular starter for the European Cup holders, it would seem a very unlikely signing in normal circumstances but there is a feeling that a deal could be possible for one important reason.
Chelsea are actively looking to sign another right-wingback this summer, having been locked in negotiations to snap up Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan. The Moroccan is now expected to sign for Paris Saint-Germain but, even so, the Blues’ interest suggests they are looking to replace, or at least, provide more competition for James.
