‘A Joke If He Joins Us Tbh’ ‘Chelsea Is A Much Smaller Club Than I Thought’ Fans Discuss Claims That City Could Sign Defender On A Free

Manchester City are one of four clubs in the running to sign Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer next summer, according to reports in Italy.

Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Tottenham are also said to be in contention to snap up the German international, and City fans on Twitter have been debating whether the Citizens really need another centre-back:

Sources in the English media have been suggesting that Rudiger may yet stay at Stamford Bridge after talks over a new contract resumed this week.

The 28-year-old is reportedly demanding close to £200,000 a week, which isn’t a great deal in the grand scheme of things, particularly for a club like City (who recently gave Kevin De Bruyne £385,000 a week).

However, while Rudiger is undoubtedly a very good player, the Premier League champions do already have four centre-halves on their books, so it would still be a surprise if the club were genuine contenders for his signature.
