Agbonlahor Claims City Could Make 120M Signing Simply To Anger Rivals Liverpool

Manchester City may make a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham simply to “spite Liverpool”, according to talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor.

The ex-Aston Villa striker claims Jurgen Klopp’s comments about the Citizens were partly borne out of frustration about the Reds’ own lack of spending power, and he claims the Premier League champions could anger Klopp even further by signing Bellingham:

“He [Klopp] knows he hasn’t got the money to buy Bellingham for £120m, and Manchester City, if I was them, and probably will, go and buy Bellingham. [Ilkay] Gundogan’s into his thirties, they might think ‘You know what, we have got the power, we will go buy Bellingham to spite Liverpool’, because we want him at our club, not yours. Bellingham is believed to be Liverpool’s top summer transfer target so Agbonlahor is correct to say his arrival at the Etihad would inflame tensions between the two teams even further.”

Reports have suggested that Erling Haaland could actually play a vital role in persuading his former Dortmund teammate into joining him in Manchester so it could well happen.

However, in addition to Liverpool, there are other rivals for Bellingham’s signature. Real Madrid and Chelsea are also said to be very keen on the England international, while Manchester United may get involved as well.
