Manchester City’s main challengers for the Premier League title this season could be Arsenal, according to Bacary Sagna.

The former defender, who played for both clubs with distinction, claims that the Gunners’ excellent start to the campaign makes them stronger contenders than Liverpool:

“Having already dropped points it’ll be difficult for Liverpool to catch up. With Arsenal having made a perfect start it feels like they could be the main contenders to compete with this incredible Manchester City side for the Premier League title.”

We will probably know a lot more about Arsenal’s title credentials when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday evening. They’ve had a pretty kind run of fixtures, with only one of their last five opponents currently in the top ten.

If they do get the three points against the Red Devils then Sagna’s remarks will seem like a more realistic assessment of the runners and riders.

City will have, of course, be firm favourites to finish top, considering their outstanding record in the Premier League in recent years. Their pretty strong start to the season will give fans cause for optimism about lifting a fifth title in the space of six years.
