Barcelona Make Key Decision On Raheem Sterling As They Look To Secure January Deal For City Ace

Barcelona will not agree to an obligation to buy Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling if they attempt to sign the England international on an initial loan deal, according to reports in the Catalan media.

The La Liga side are not willing to be locked into paying in excess of €50m (£42.5m) for the 26-year-old and would like to sign him on a temporary basis without any firm commitments to purchase the player.

Such a stance is unlikely to be welcomed by City, who are reportedly keen to raise funds from Sterling’s sale in the January transfer window.

An asking price of £45m to £50m has been set by the Premier League champions and, if Barca do table a loan proposal, it is likely to be rejected out of hand.

Sterling is said to be unsettled at the Etihad Stadium, due to his lack of game time, but a move to Spain does seem unlikely, at this stage. The only other alternative appears to be Arsenal, but it remains to be seen whether the Gunners are willing to meet City’s valuation.
