Battle For The PL Golden Glove: The FIVE Keepers With The Most Clean Sheets This Season

Nick Pope

With the season soon coming to a close, we have decided to look at the runners and riders for the Premier League Golden Glove.

The award is handed out to the goalkeeper who has kept the most shutouts for his club during the campaign.

It’s a very close race for the prize this year, with there being just three clean sheets between the top five contenders.

Press the next page as we list the keepers who are in contention for the Golden Glove award.

5) Ederson (Manchester City) – 10

Considering the Citizens have the second-best defensive record in the Premier League this campaign, it is surprising to see the Brazilian so low down this list.

However, it’s fair to say that Ederson hasn’t had the greatest season. His save percentage is just 61.3%, which is his lowest figure in his professional career to date.

Even so, he is still within touching distance of getting his fourth Golden Glove award, which would make him joint record holder along with Petr Cech and Joe Hart.

4) Alisson Becker (Liverpool) – 11

When you consider Liverpool’s extremely poor season, it’s bizarre that the Reds’ number one is above Ederson in terms of clean sheets.

However, there are a couple of reasons why Alisson remains in the fight for his third Golden Glove.

Liverpool’s inconsistency means there have been times where their defence has performed well and, unlike his teammates, Alisson’s standards haven’t dropped this campaign, making important saves when called upon.

3) Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal) – 12

Many questioned the £30m that the Gunners paid Sheffield United for the goalkeeper at the start of last season, but the 24-year-old is demonstrating his worth now.

Ramsdale is a confident goalkeeper and, combined with his athleticism, he is able to pull off stops many others are not capable of.

A case in point was his performance against Liverpool last weekend, when he made three top-drawer saves that helped his team secure a draw at Anfield.

=1) Nick Pope (Newcastle) – 13

The England international has been part of a defence that is the best in the Premier League this campaign, conceding just 21 goals in 29 matches.

Pope has certainly played his part in keeping clean sheets, but it has very much been a team effort by Eddie Howe’s side.

He is currently the joint leader in the battle for the Golden Glove but, considering the Magpies’ outstanding defensive record, he could well end up winning the award.

=1) David De Gea (Manchester United) – 13

For a team that has conceded seven goals against Liverpool and six versus Manchester City this campaign, many wouldn’t have expected United’s number one to be top of this list.

It should be pointed out, though, that those games were aberrations and not typical of Erik ten Hag’s team, who have been much more resilient defensively this season.

De Gea has had a decent campaign individually too, but a lot of the credit for the clean sheets has to go to the strong partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the centre of defence.
