BBC Sport Pundit Claims City Are “A Better Fit” Than United For 150M Rated Haaland Alternative

BBC Sport pundit Danny Murphy thinks Tottenham striker Harry Kane would be the ideal signing for Manchester City.

Manchester United have also been heavily linked with the England captain, but Murphy believes the 27-year-old, who is reportedly valued at £150m, would much prefer a switch to the Etihad Stadium:

“Manchester United would be improved by signing the England captain and could afford his transfer fee and wages but, for Kane, is it worth leaving Spurs without that guarantee of immediate success? United might still be a year or two away from winning the big trophies which makes me think Manchester City looks a better fit.”

“City are blowing everyone away at the moment but Pep Guardiola is too shrewd to want to go into next season relying on Gabriel Jesus or a ‘false nine’ now it’s clear Sergio Aguero is playing fewer games. A fortnight ago, Kane fed on scraps at the Etihad as City hammered Spurs 3-0. He must have wondered how many goals he’d score in a Pep team and how many medals he would win.”

Murphy goes on to say that City target Erling Haaland would probably be better off at United, due to his close connection with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the fact that the Red Devils would be prepared to build a team around the Norwegian.

Whether the Citizens will see things that way, it is debatable. Haaland is much younger than Kane and he is likely to cost less than the Tottenham forward.

With that being the case, you would still expect Pep Guardiola’s side to compete strongly with United and Chelsea for Haaland’s signature at the end of the season.
