Ben Chilwell Explains Why “It’s Not A Surprise” To See Manchester City Spend 100M On One Player

Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell claims that Manchester City’s decision to shell out £100m on Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish demonstrates the club’s ambition.

The England international believes that the Citizens’ willingness to continually improve their squad means they will be in contention to win trophies every single season:

“Man City have been a great team over the past five to ten years. That’s what you get with the bigger teams, they are going to want to spend to keep improving their squads because they are not just happy with winning the league last year. They want to do it all over again this year. It’s not a surprise that they want to strengthen their squad to keep on improving.”

City’s spending may not stop with Grealish either, with manager Pep Guardiola having all but confirmed the club’s intention to sign Harry Kane. A deal will depend on Tottenham being open to negotiations but the hope is that a deal can be done before the transfer window closes later this month.

The ability to constantly evolve the squad and inject new blood into the team is undoubtedly key to the Manchester club’s continued success. If they do manage to secure the signing of Kane, in addition to Grealish, then there can be no disputing who will be favourites to lift the Premier League title this campaign.
