Bernardo Silva promises not to underestimate Basel in Champions League despite 4-0 advantage

Bernardo Silva has insisted Manchester City won’t underestimate Basel in the second leg of their last-16 Champions League tie, despite going into the clash with a healthy 4-0 lead.

Silva was on hand with a brilliant strike in the first leg triumph at St. Jakob-Park, with an Ilkay Gundogan brace and a Sergio Aguero strike securing a comfortable win for the visitors.

Despite Basel having to pull off what would be one of the biggest upsets in Champions League history to progress to the competition quarter-finals when the two sides meet tonight – Silva says City still must be aware of the danger the Swiss Champions pose.

“Now is time to think about the next challenge and about Wednesday’s game against Basel. It is a Champions League match, which is a very important competition for us.” said Silva.

“We know we have been doing a good job so far this season, that we won the League Cup and are in a good place in the Champions League and that we are also still fighting for the Premier League trophy.”

He continued: “In my opinion, Champions League games are never easy, but of course, when you win by 4-0 in the first round away, you’ve always a good advantage especially because now we are playing at home with our fans’ support.”

“We’ll face the challenge with maximum confidence and stay focused, with the intention to win again.”
