Bernardo warns City’s rivals: We want to better season’s record

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva says the Blues want to better their record-breaking points tally from last season.

Silva’s debut season at the Etihad saw the Blues storm to Premier League success, finishing the campaign on a record 100 points.

They are string favourites to hold onto their title this season too, but plenty of pundits believe Liverpool will contend for the title with them after their successful summer of transfer business.

However, with the arrival of £60m Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City, Bernardo believes City are still the team to beat despite their rivals’ strengthening.

Speaking to CityTV, Silva said: “We made more than 100 points. For the fans, for me personally and for the club it was special and and we’re looking forward to doing even better, especially in the other competitions like the FA Cup and the Champions League, and we’ll work very hard for that.

“Everyone is very hungry to get more titles and to keep winning.

“You can feel everyone is working very hard to start well this season and to do better than last season.”

Speaking on Mahrez’s arrival, a player who will contend with Silva for a place in the team, the Portuguese said: “He is a fantastic player. Everyone can see, and could see in the last few seasons what he did in the Premier League, he will, for sure, improve our squad.

“We are very happy to have him with us.”
