“Came Of Age” Shearer Praises City Ace As He Names Four Players From PL Champions In His Team Of The Season

Alan Shearer has praised attacking midfielder Phil Foden for the breakout season he has had with Manchester City.

The 21-year-old started only 17 matches in the Premier League this campaign, but he still made some telling contributions in helping the Citizens lift the Premier League title, and Shearer believes the player will only go from strength to strength:

“He’s had to be patient and bide his time but Foden came of age this season, with his tremendous touch and technique contributing to nine goals and five assists.”

Shearer was speaking about Foden as he named his Premier League Team of the Season. In addition to the England international, three other City players made the eleven including Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias and Ilkay Gundogan.

He labelled Dias a “game-changer” in regards to how he transformed the team’s defence, while he also reserved special praise for Gundogan who “stepped up” to score the goals in the absence of a recognised centre forward.

Three Manchester United stars were also included: Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw, and somewhat surprisingly, Harry Maguire. Liverpool forward Mo Salah, Golden Boot winner Harry Kane and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez made up the rest of the eleven.
