Carragher Predicts Guardiola May Make Surprise Tactical Change For Liverpool Encounter

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is likely to come up with a surprise tactical switch when the Citizens come up against the Reds.

The TV pundit has cited comments made by Guardiola that suggest he will need to adapt his team’s style of play when they play at Anfield, and he is expecting to see the City boss try something to catch Jurgen Klopp’s side off guard this evening:

“We’ve seen in his interviews that he spoke about playing certain ways and how you have to adapt for certain games like going to Anfield.”

“I think there will be something different, we don’t know what. That is why he is such a special coach, you can never read him.”

Guardiola did play a lot more defensively in the 0-0 draw at Anfield last season, and the ploy almost worked to perfection, with Riyad Mahrez’s missed penalty the only thing preventing them from picking up the three points.

The Citizens do head into the encounter with some injuries, though, and whether the absence of Ederson and Aymeric Laporte will play a part in Guardiola’s tactical approach to the game, we shall have to wait and see.
