Chelsea will attempt to “muscle in” on negotiations for Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, according to The Guardian‘s Jacob Steinberg:
Real Madrid still favourites to sign David Alaba but Chelsea will try to muscle in on the deal #cfc https://t.co/BLkUOdrNAr

Manchester City have been mentioned in the Spanish press as having made the most lucrative contract offer to the Austrian international, even though Real Madrid remain firm favourites to sign the player on a free transfer this summer..
However, Steinberg claims Chelsea are doing all they can to hijack the move with their manager Thomas Tuchel keen to strengthen his defence with Alaba, who he admires greatly.
Liverpool and Manchester United are also thought to be in the running for the 28-year-old, but it has always been believed that Real is his preferred destination.
Whether this late move from Chelsea will affect the centre-back’s decision, we shall have to wait and see, but more competition won’t help City’s chances of snapping up the player at the end of the season.
