City And United Join Arsenal In Pursuit Of Portuguese Teenage Sensation With 52M Release Clause

Manchester City are one of a number of teams keeping tabs on Sporting Lisbon winger Joelson Fernandes, according to reports in the Portuguese media.

Manchester United, Juventus and Barcelona are also said to be keen on the 18-year-old, who was reportedly the subject of a bid from Arsenal last summer.

Since then, Joelson has been restricted to outings for Sporting’s Under 23 side but he has been part of the senior team’s pre-season training, with the anticipation that he will be more involved this season.

His potential has, though, attracted a lot of interest from Europe’s elite, and with City having a good relationship with Sporting, it could give them an advantage in negotiations.

It is not known, however, whether the Primeira Liga champions would compromise on their asking price. Joelson currently has a €60m (£52m) release clause, despite the fact that he has only played four senior matches so far in his flegling career.
