Bayern Munich defender David Alaba will ask to leave the Champions League winners this summer if he can’t agree a new contract with the Bundesliga club, according to reports in the German media.
It was previously believed that Barcelona had asked the Austrian international to run down his current deal and join them on a free transfer next summer, but it now looks like he could be available before the transfer window closes.
Both Manchester City and Manchester United have been linked with a move for Alaba in recent months, while Chelsea were also said to be interested in the 28-year-old before snapping up Ben Chilwell from Leicester City.
Citizens boss Pep Guardiola is believed to be keen on signing a new left-back, with neither Benjamin Mendy nor Oleksandr Zinchenko having convinced last season.
With Angelino having returned to RB Leipzig on loan, there could be a space in the squad for another fullback but much will depend on whether Bayern can find a breakthrough in discussions with Alaba over a new deal.
