City can cope with De Bruyne absence, say Blues’ stars

Manchester City announced this week that star player Kevin De Bruyne had suffered a knee injury that could keep him out of action for 2-4 months.

It’s a bitter blow for the champions, who have lost arguably their best player and certainly a key figure in the team.

The Blues announced on Wednesday that the Belgian international was undergoing tests on his right knee after suffering ligament damage in training, and many feared the worst.

However, as bad as it is, it could have been much worse – and De Bruyne reportedly faces only a few months on the sidelines.

It means the 27-year-old will miss a number of key fixtures for Pep Guardiola’s side, including their opening Champions League match.

But City defender Kyle Walker has insisted that the team can cope without the brilliance of De Bruyne, saying that there is still plenty of talent within the team.

Speaking at the premiere of Amazon’s ‘All or Nothing’ documentary about Manchester City, Walker played down any fears about his teammates absence.

“Kevin is a great player and it’s just unfortunate that it’s happened to him in training but there’s more than enough depth in the squad.

“We don’t just rely on one player. It’s a team game and whoever steps in will do well. Obviously it’s a big loss but we’ve got more than enough cover.”

Fellow teammate Ilkay Gundogan also paid tribute to De Bruyne, describing him as their main man from last season.

“He played an incredible season.

“He had so much impact on our game. He was maybe the main man for us last season.

“He is very important. We all hope that it is not too serious so he can get back on the training field as soon as possible.”

We would like to take this opportunity to wish Kevin De Bruyne a speedy recovery!
