City Chasing £44m Rated La Liga Fullback As Mendy Replacement

Manchester City are weighing up a move for Real Betis fullback Junior Firpo, according to reports in England.

The 22-year-old is valued at £44m by his club, but the Manchester side are keen to recruit cover for Benjamin Mendy.

The Frenchman has undergone knee surgery which will keep him out until the New Year, leaving manager Pep Guardiola with no natural left-sided full-backs.

Right back Danilo has covered there in the past, while midfielders Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko have also been picked to play in the position.

However, Firpo would give City an additional option at left-back. So far this season, the defender has scored two goals and provided two assists in 13 matches.

His performances have not only impressed City’s scouts. Arsenal have also been monitoring the Spanish Under 21 international, but it’s unlikely the Gunners would be able to compete financially if it came down to a bidding war.
