City, Chelsea And Arsenal All Set To Miss Out On Scottish Teenage Prodigy

Manchester City have missed out on Hibernian goalkeeper Murray Johnson, according to reports in the Scottish media.

The teenager is said to be poised to sign for Wolves in a deal worth £250,000, with the transfer also including a number of add-ons and future bonuses based on performance.

Johnson is a Scotland Under 17 international but he has not played a game at senior level. However, City’s scouts had seen promise in the player, along with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal.

The 16-year-old had only recently signed a new contract at Hibs but it appears Wolves came up with an offer that was too good to turn down.

Of course, City could have matched Wolves’ bid for Johnson if they felt he was worth the outlay, but it seems they were reluctant to take the risk on the player.

The Manchester club do coincidentally have another young Scottish keeper, Cieran Slicker, in their development squad, and it may simply be the case that Johnson wasn’t deemed better than what they already had coming through the ranks.
