City Close In On Shock Signing Of Former Liverpool Shot Stopper

Manchester City are closing in on a deal for Derby County goalkeeper Scott Carson, according to reports in the English media. The Citizens want the 33-year-old on loan.

The former Leeds and Liverpool custodian is being eyed as the club’s third-choice keeper behind Ederson and Claudio Bravo, with City needing to increase their quota of homegrown players in the squad.

The Premier League champions have loaned out both Aro Muric and Zak Steffen and require another backup option if one of the two main keepers is out injured.

Carson is currently behind Kelle Roos and Jonathan Mitchell in the pecking order at Pride Park. He was not in the squad for Phillip Cocu’s first game in charge against Huddersfield last weekend but he has made 171 appearances for the Championship club since moving from Wigan in 2015.

He has four caps for England, including playing the full 90 minutes in the infamous 3-2 home defeat to Croatia back in 2007.
