City Closing In On £54m Deal For Portuguese Star

Manchester City are close to sealing the signing of Juventus right-back Joao Cancelo, according to reports in the Italian media.

There had been claims that the deal for the Portuguese international had stalled over the Citizens failure to offload Danilo, but it appears a deal could be back on.

Cancelo will reportedly cost between €50m (£45m) and €60m (£54m), which would be a costly outlay for a right-back, especially considering City remain well-stocked in that area of the pitch.

As well as Danilo, Kyle Walker has recently signed a new contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2024.

Cancelo has only been with Juve for a year, following a €40m move from Valencia, but he failed to firmly establish himself as the first-choice right-back.

Although the 25-year-old made 34 appearances in all competitions last campaign, he shared duties with Mattia De Sciglio, and was not trusted to start the club’s biggest game of the season; the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Ajax.
