City Dealt Huge Setback As Fernandinho Replacement Looks Poised For £60m Italy Move

Tanguy Ndombele

Juventus have won the race for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to reports in the UK.

The Bianconeri are said to have agreed a fee in the region of £60m for the France international ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham were all tracking Ndombele but it appears they will have to look elsewhere for a new holding midfielder.

City, in particular, have been looking for a replacement for Fernandinho with the Brazilian turning 34 next month.

Back in January, manager Pep Guardiola revealed it was a challenge finding someone who could match the midfielder’s qualities, and they had been looking at three or four different options:

“It’s so difficult to find. He (Fernandinho) knows the Premier League, after three years together here, he knows everything and that’s so important.”

“We need a guy who has physicality, can read where our spaces are to attack. As many things as he can do, the better. It’s not easy to find one player who can do everything. We’ve seen many. There are three or four we are looking at, searching for that position.”

Ndombele appeared to be the ideal candidate after impressing the City boss in Lyon’s Champions League group matches against the Citizens earlier this season, but it looks as though they will have to look at alternatives before the summer.
