Paris Saint-Germain are “almost certain” to sign Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong in the summer, according to De Telegraaf.
The Dutch newspaper reports that the French club
PSG are reportedly willing to pay €75m (£67m) to seal the transfer of de Jong with the Citizens reportedly having hesitated and allowed the Ligue One side to snap up the player from under their noses.
De Telegraaf report that City’s concerns over UEFA sanctions for Financial Fair Play breaches may have played a part in them not going through with the deal, and they even say that de Jong had a face to face meeting with City boss Pep Guardiola with the Dutchman poised to make the switch to the Etihad.
However, it seems PSG moved quickly when they realised that City
Sporting Director Antero Henrique and his assistant Maxwell reportedly held talks yesterday with Ajax Director of Football Marc Overmars to discuss terms with a transfer close to being agreed.
Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona were also believed to be interested in the de Jong but it seems he will be plying his trade in France next season.
