Manchester City are weighing up a move for Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti, according to reports in the French media.

The 25-year-old, who has also been on Arsenal and Manchester United’s radar, will be sold by Barca this summer for the right price.

Currently, the La Liga champions are believed to be holding out for a fee close to €60m (£54m) but a bid nearer €50m (£45m) may also be acceptable.

Umtiti has fallen behind fellow Frenchman Clement Lenglet in the pecking order at the Camp Nou and has also had his injury problems.

Manager Pep Guardiola does like to have balance in terms of left and right-footed defenders. Umtiti is left-footed and could be an alternative option to Aymeric Laporte for the left-sided centre-back position.

In recent days, though, Guardiola has questioned the need to replace former captain Vincent Kompany, with it being hinted that Fernandinho may move back into defence this season.
