City Eyeing United Target As They Plan For David Silva’s Successor

Manchester City are considering a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, according to reports in the English media. David Silva is leaving the Etihad Stadium in the summer and the 25-year-old is on the list of possible replacements for the City legend.

Niguez, who has also been linked with Manchester United, is not as creative as Silva, having scored just two goals and provided no assists in 25 appearances so far this season, but he is the type of player that fits Pep Guardiola’s style of play.

The City manager is planning a major overhaul of the club’s first-team squad in the summer, with moves for a new centre-back and another left-back also said to be on the cards.

Benfica’s Ruben Dias and Villarreal’s Pau Torres are the two names being targeted for the centre of the defence, while Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell is Guardiola’s favoured target for the left-hand side.

In midfield, Lyon’s Houssem Aouar is also reportedly being looked at, with it being claimed that scouts will be sent to see the Lyon star in action. Whether he is being looked at as an alternative to Niguez, or in addition to the Spaniard, we shall see.
