City Have ‘Entered’ Transfer Battle With 3 Other PL Clubs For La Liga Star With 50.7M Release Clause

Manchester City have “entered” the running to sign Villarreal defender Pau Torres this summer, according to Sport.

The Catalan newspaper report that the Citizens will challenge the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham for the 25-year-old’s signature.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano did reveal earlier this month that Pep Guardiola’s side have been scouting Torres recently and it appears that they could step up their interest in the player over the coming weeks.

The Spanish international is thought to have a release clause in his contract worth between €55m (£46.5m) and €60m (£50.7m) and that will undoubtedly attract potential suitors.

Whether City actually need a player like Torres, though, it is up for debate. Guardiola already has two left-sided centre-halves at his disposal in Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake so, unless one of these two players leaves the Etihad, it is hard to see where the Villarreal defender would fit in.
