City Have ‘Made It Clear’ That They Will Challenge Chelsea And United For 28 Cap Midfielder

Manchester City have “made it clear” that they are interested in signing West Ham midfielder Declan Rice this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Chelsea and Manchester United are widely believed to be the favourites to sign the England star, who has 28 caps at senior level. However, City have reportedly “requested” to be kept informed about the player’s situation.

Rice has recently rejected a new contract from West Ham but the Hammers believe they are in a good position to keep hold of the player, as they possess an option to extend this current deal to 2025. That means they will likely push for a fee in excess of £100m.

Many had assumed that would be enough to put off City due to financial fair play rules, with the club also lining up a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland. The Mail, though, claim the Premier League champions do have room for manoeuvre, with a net spend of only £37m over the past year.

It means that there is a possibility of snapping up both Haaland AND Rice at the end of the season.
