City Have The Upper Hand On Barcelona In Battle To Secure Bayern Munich Star

Manchester City are leading the race to sign Bayern Munich left-back David Alaba, according to reports in the Catalan media.

Barcelona are also believed to be keen on the Austrian international but they are unable to match his wage demands. The fullback is currently earning approximately €8m (£7.4m) a season, but he is looking for a pay rise if he leaves the Allianz Arena.

Alaba is closing in on the final twelve months of his contract with Bayern, and as things stand, the Bundesliga club are expected to sell up in the summer.

Chelsea had also been mentioned as a possible destination but it seems Pep Guardiola‘s side are the ones who are making all the running for the 27-year-old.

The defender can play a number of different positions, and his flexibility has no doubt caught City’s attention. On top of that, Alaba’s wage demands are unlikely to deter them from moving forward with a summer bid.
