City Hold ‘Talks’ With Bayern Star But Key Disagreement Could Scupper Deal From Happening

Manchester City have “had talks” with Bayern Munich defender David Alaba’s representatives about a potential move to the Etihad, according to Sky in Germany.

Manager Pep Guardiola is keen on signing the Austrian as a centre-back after the player excelled in the role under head coach Hansi Flick this season.

However, Alaba is not interested in playing in the position over the long term, and would much prefer playing in a holding midfield role. Sky, therefore, say City is not his preferred destination this summer.

The 28-year-old has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Allianz Arena, but it remains to be seen whether he will be sold by Bayern or the player opts to run down his contract.

Chelsea have been linked with Alaba to fill their problem position at left-back but the Austrian international’s likeliest destination is Barcelona who are reportedly keen on snapping him up on a free transfer next year.
