City In Race With West Ham To Sign Portuguese Under 19 Starlet On Free Transfer

Manchester City are battling West Ham for Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Djalo, according to reports in Portugal.

The 18-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer in the summer.

Sporting are trying their best to keep hold of Djalo with a new four and a half year deal having been offered to the player, but so far the teenager has turned down the opportunity to remain with the Portuguese club.

In addition to City and the Hammers, Serie A side Lazio are also reportedly in the mix for the centre-back.

Djalo made his debut for Sporting’s B team at the start of the season and he has featured 12 times this campaign in the Portuguese second division.

However, he hasn’t played since the beginning of December, when he played the full 90 minutes in 1-0 win against Braga B. The Portuguese Under 19 international was born in Guinea-Bissau but has made his way through the youth ranks at Sporting over the past few years.
