City keeping tabs on Portuguese wonderkid

Manchester City are set to battle it out with Arsenal for the signature of Benfica wonderkid Joao Felix this summer, according to reports.

Manchester Evening News reports that both clubs have sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old in recent weeks ahead of a proposed summer switch to England.

Manchester United are also reported to be monitoring the situation

Felix is the star player of Benfica’s highly talented youth set-up, and has scored four goals and two assists in his last four matches for the Eagles. He also netted a sensational hat-trick in a 5–0 home win over F.C. Famalicão earlier in the year.

Felix began his career with Os Pestinhas before joining the youth ranks of FC Porto, where he spent seven years. He was released however and subsequently made the switch to Benfica in 2015, where he gone from strength to strength with the Portuguese giants.

Any move for teenager however, will not come cheap, with it being suggested that Benfica have already slapped a huge €60 million release clause on the youngster’s contract in an attempt to fend away potential suitors.
