City Make Last Ditch Attempt To Avoid Champions League Ban

Manchester City have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to prevent UEFA banning them from European competitions.

The Club Financial Control Body adjudicatory chamber is expected to sentence City imminently about breaches of Financial Fair Play.

A ban of one year from the Champions League is a punishment that is reportedly being considered, but City have contacted CAS about the fairness of the process.

Chief Investigator Yves Leterme handed over his findings into payments that amounted to £60m which were purportedly paid directly to the club from the club’s owners.

City insist there is a body of evidence which was ignored by UEFA’s investigators which show clearly that the money was received through sponsorship deals.

However, there have been claims that the probe found inconsistencies and contradictions in the answers provided by the club, leading to the conclusion that City violated the rules.

It remains to be seen whether City will be banned from Europe, and whether their appeal to CAS is successful.
