City Make Surprise Decision As They Join Arsenal In Pursuing 31 Year Old Defender

Manchester City are keen on snapping up Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand on a free transfer this summer, according to reports in England.

Arsenal, AC Milan and Monaco are all believed to have made contact with the 31-year-old about moving clubs when his contract expires at the end of June, but the Citizens are also ready to table an offer to the player.

The Manchester club have reportedly been tracking Bertrand for a while, and it is said they are interested in finding a short-term solution to strengthen their options at left-back.

Benjamin Mendy has failed to make the grade, while Joao Cancelo is better suited on the right flank. There have been claims in recent days that Pep Guardiola’s side may pursue Sporting Lisbon’s Nuno Mendes, but those reports have been disputed.

It is thought that if most of City’s transfer funds are devoted to signing a new striker, there won’t be much left to sign a new left-back, so Bertrand would be a more economical option.
