City Midfield Maestro’s Future In Serious Doubt After Latest Contract Development

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has put contract talks on hold, according to the latest reports in the UK.

The German’s current contract expires in 2020 and the Citizens have been keen to tie him down to a longer-term deal, but the 28-year-old has reportedly decided to halt negotiations.

Gundogan is said to be worried that he won’t be a first-team regular under manager Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, and he wants to ensure he is guaranteed game time as he enters the final stages of his career.

The midfielder’s reported decision to end talks will likely lead to City looking to sell the player in the summer.

With Gundogan heading into the final 12 months of his contract, the club will not want to risk losing the player for nothing. The German international joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 for £20m and has made over 100 appearances since his arrival in the North West.
