Manchester City have joined a long list of Premier League clubs tracking Lille defender Sven Botman, according to reports in the French media.

The 21-year-old is thought to be on the Citizens’ radar, with West Ham, Newcastle and Tottenham also reportedly keen on the centre-back.

Botman played a key role as Lille were crowned Ligue One champions last season, but the French club are experiencing financial difficulties and they have already sold two players this summer, Mike Maignan and Boubakary Soumare, to balance the books.

The Dutchman is not ‘up for sale’ due to his importance to the team, and it is believed any team would have to pay at least €50m (£42.7m) to sign the player.

There is a very real possibility that Botman could be a target for City. He has also been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool in the past, and he would be a useful addition to the squad if Aymeric Laporte were to leave the Etihad before the transfer window closes.
