Conor Coady Names City Star As The Best Player In The Premier League (And It’s Not De Bruyne)

Leicester City defender Conor Coady says “it’s hard to argue against” saying that Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva is currently the best player in the Premier League.

The Portuguese international put in another excellent display versus Liverpool in the 1-1 draw at the weekend and, speaking about Silva’s performances, Coady said:

“First and foremost, what a player. I think it’s hard to argue against that [he’s the best in the league] if I’m being honest. We’ll all say other names or we’ll all say certain players but I think his consistency sets him apart a little bit as well. You know what you’re going to get from him every single game.”

Having played against Silva a number of times for both Wolves and Everton, Coady said it often goes unnoticed that Silva is an extremely versatile player who can play in a number of different positions:

“I think when you look at Bernardo Silva, you look at him like and you go, ‘Oh, he’s a No.10.’ He’s far from that. There’s been games, I think I mentioned it to you before, there’s been games I’ve played against him where he’s receiving the ball off the keeper. He’s going next to the keeper and receiving the ball, so I think he’s got absolutely everything, whether that be on the ball or off the ball.”

Silva has been City’s standout player

With Kevin De Bruyne having been sidelined since the opening game of the season with a hamstring injury, Silva has taken it upon himself to be the main playmaker in the team.

In big games against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea this campaign, the 29-year-old has really stood up to the plate and he will be looking to do the same against Tottenham this weekend.

Fans will be relieved that Silva signed a new contract

With speculation rife that the midfielder was angling for a transfer away from the Etihad, it came as a surprise when it was announced in August that he had put pen to paper on a new three-year contract.

Considering his performances this season, supporters are delighted that the Portuguese star decided to stay.
