Manchester City are still interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to reports in the UK.
It was reported back in October that the Citizens were lining up a summer bid of around €40m (£34.6m) for the Swiss international, but circumstances have changed since then.
With Fernandinho now expected to stay at the Etihad Stadium for another year, it may affect the club’s decision to go ahead with a formal offer for Zakaria. Even so, it seems they may still see the player as a long-term target.
Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been mentioned as potential suitors for the 24-year-old over the past eighteen months and we shall see whether any of those teams do indeed make a bid for him.
Zakaria has recovered well from a serious knee injury which kept him out until late November, having finished the season with 32 appearances in all competitions.
