City Target De Jong Speaks Out About Possible Departure From Ajax

Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong has said that he would like to move to the same club as his teammate Matthijs de Ligt if they both leave the Eredivisie club in the near future.

The pair are highly sought after with Manchester City and Barcelona having been linked over the past few months.

When asked about both his and his teammate’s future plans, he was quoted as saying:

“If we left Ajax for another club, then it would be nice if we both went to the same club.”

“But I can’t really say anything about that yet. We talk about it together and others do the same, but it’s not really a big topic of discussion for us.”

Reports in England suggest that City would be prepared to pay £80million for de Jong in January, and even allow the player to stay at Ajax for the rest of the season.

However, the Dutch club are said to be reluctant to sell and have asked for Ilkay Gundogan as part of the deal which the Manchester club would not agree to.

The Citizens have also been linked with a move for de Jong’s teammate de Ligt as a possible long-term successor to Vincent Kompany but the 19-year-old is being heavily pursued by Barcelona.
