City Turned Down Player Plus Cash Offer That Would Have Seen Them Sign Spanish Star Ahead Of Chelsea

Manchester City did reject a player plus cash offer from Atletico Madrid, involving Saul Niguez, according to the Daily Star.

The La Liga champions were looking to strike a deal for Bernardo Silva, and were willing to use Niguez in negotiations to get the move over the line for the Portuguese international.

However, the Daily Star claim that the Citizens turned down the proposal as they wanted a straight cash bid of £40m for Silva, with manager Pep Guardiola not interested in taking Niguez as part of the transfer.

It is believed that the offer from Atletico arrived not long before the transfer window closed last week. Niguez eventually moved to Chelsea on deadline day, with the Blues signing the Spaniard on a loan deal that includes an option to buy at the end of the season.

Silva ended up staying at the Etihad Stadium, and it remains to be seen whether Atletico will revive their interest in January.
