Sky Sports pundit Jame Carragher has made Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne his Premier League player of the season.
Speaking on Monday Night Football this week, Carragher was full of praise for the Belgian international, who he believes can go down as one of the all-time greats:
“I think he is the best player in the league, I absolutely love Kevin De Bruyne. He is the one player if I take Liverpool out of the equation, if I am going to watch someone, I think I’ll watch Kevin De Bruyne today. I think he is the greatest player to ever play for Man City. I think he is going to be one of the all-time greats in the Premier League, we always talk about Gerrard, Scholes and Lampard, I think when Kevin De Bruyne finishes it will be which one out of them four. He is well in that category.”
City supporters on Twitter were surprised that Carragher picked De Bruyne, not only because of his Liverpool connections, but also because there are plenty of other candidates for the accolade in City’s squad:

Surprised he didn't pick Henderson.

He knows ball

Rodri was City's best player this season followed by Kyle Walker.

🤔 he was good but not at his best level. Bernado on the other side put in a good performance. 3 EPOTM awards in a roll.

There is certainly a case to be made for Rodri, Joao Cancelo or even perhaps Bernardo Silva (based on his early-season form) but De Bruyne has been outstanding since Christmas and deserves the recognition.
If we are just talking about the Premier League, the 30-year-old is the one player in City’s squad who is helping to push his team over the line as they look to secure yet another title.
