Crucial Meeting Set To Decide 131M Rated Serie A Star’s Future As City And Chelsea Circle

Manchester City and Chelsea are waiting on the outcome of a meeting between Rafael Leao and AC Milan to determine the player’s future, according to reports in Italy.

The Serie A champions are believed to be confident of tieing down the 23-year-old to a new contract, but the player’s representatives are thought to be demanding certain conditions which could prove favourable to a potential sale in the future.

Leao currently has a €150m (£131m) release clause, but there is talk that this figure could be reduced by €20m (£17.4m) to €30m (£26m) if the winger puts pen to paper on a new deal. The reason why Milan could be open to this arrangement is that they would be forced into selling him for an even lower amount next summer.

The Portuguese international’s contract expires in 2024 so the Rossoneri could be prepared to reduce the buyout fee as long as he commits to signing an extension. Whatever happens, it appears City will have a chance of securing the player’s signature in a future transfer window.
