Danilo promises City will “bounce back quickly” after United upset

Manchester City defender Danilo has promised his side will “bounce back quickly” after the weekend’s upset against rivals Manchester United.

United inflicted City’s first home defeat of the Premier League season on Saturday when they came from 2-0 behind to beat the league leaders 3-2 and prevent them from securing the Premier League title.

City went in at half-time with a 2-0 advantage and one hand on the title thanks to goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan, however Pep Guardiola’s side were denied what would have been a memorable victory parade after Jose Mourinho’s men produced a remarkable second-half turnaround.

A brace from Paul Pogba early in the second-half levelled the scores, before Chris Smalling hit a 69th minute winner to claim all three points for the visitors.

The defeat made it two on the bounce for the first time this season for City after they lost 3-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday night, however Danilo insists the Sky Blues will come back stronger after what has been a difficult few days at the club.

“We win together and we lose together,” he said.

“It was not a failure of not taking our chances or not defending crosses, it is just hard to explain but now we must focus on Tuesday and put this behind us.”

Danilo also called on City fans to match the derby atmosphere when they meet Liverpool in the second-leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday.

“They were amazing today and have been fantastic all season and they can help us so much,” he said. “If they can repeat that against Liverpool it will give us a huge lift.”
