Danny Mills Tells City To Bin Their Pursuit Of Kane As He Recommends “Absolutely Outstanding” Alternative

Ex-Manchester City defender Danny Mills thinks his former club should end their interest in Tottenham’s Harry Kane and go after Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland instead.

The Citizens are reportedly lining up an offer for Kane worth an initial £120m, which could rise to £160m in add-ons, but Mills feels the England captain does not fit manager Pep Guardiola’s style of play, unlike Haaland:

“I’m not sure Harry Kane suits Manchester City with the way that they play. He’s going to score goals, but the way that Guardiola wants to play with the high press and the energy, that’s not Kane’s game. Kane can play the false nine very well, but if you want a player that can go out and do everything then it’s Haaland.”

“He’s absolutely outstanding and he’s a lot younger, so you’ll get your buy back. Will City go out and spend that amount of money for Kane? I’m not so sure when Haaland is a cheaper and better option in a year’s time.”

Haaland has been heavily linked with Chelsea this summer, but the Blues are no longer in the race for the Norwegian international after snapping up Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan. Other teams, such as Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all remain keen on the striker though.

As Mills mentions, the 21-year-old does have a €75m (£64m) release clause which comes into effect next summer, but whether City would be willing to wait that long to secure the services of a new number nine, we shall have to wait and see.
