De Bruyne labelled the ‘assist king’ by pundit

Manchester United and England legend Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, describing him as the ‘assist king’.

The playmaker played a vital role in City’s record-breaking Premier League win last season, scoring 8 goals and assisting 16 in 36 appearances last season.

His form hasn’t dipped this summer at the World Cup either, with his Belgium side through to the Quarter-Finals as one of the favourites to win the tournament.

Former United and England defender has jumped to praise the midfielder, admitting that the 26-year-old is the king of assists.

Speaking as a pundit on BBC, Ferdinand said: “He’s the assist king in the Premier League.

“This guy is such a joy to watch, a great footballer, plays off both feet, balance.

“But what I love about him as well, in this team, he’s a trigger a lot of the time when they press the ball.

“Once he does receive the ball, his first option is to kill the opposition.

“He could go safe with that pass, but he plays for the jugular to get in towards goal.

“That’s what you want from your midfielders when they’re playing the attackers through, that’s why they make the runs once he’s on the ball.”
