Manchester City and Chelsea are both keeping tabs on Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s contract situation, according to reports in the Catalan media.
The 27-year-old wants to stay at the Camp Nou but it is believed that the German is unhappy with the offer proposed by Barca.
Ter Stegen feels he is deserving of a salary commensurate with his importance to the team. With his current deal expiring in 2022, City are said to be watching developments closely, although fans on Twitter don’t think there is any truth to the story:
Dont need him

Yeah because we don’t already have a £40mill goalie who’s handy with his feet..

No way he replaces Ederson. Quality keeper though.

Ederson's top so it would be a bit of a waste

Why is it in every rumours there is city there, we don't need a gk we have one of the best keepers

This news is so fake. City may never need a new keeper for the next decade and the half. Ederson, Zack steffen, Muric and Bazunu

They just have to mention City in every transfer speculation… Everybody knows that this doesn't make any sence.

Made up story by agent. Link high profile player with Manchester city in contract talks go get bigger contract. Easy

Agents and players tend to use interest from other clubs in order to get themselves a big pay rise, and it appears City’s past interest in the keeper is being used in contract talks.
Manager Pep Guardiola reportedly tried to sign ter Stegen before they eventually secured Claudio Bravo, but since then the Citizens have secured a top-class shot-stopper in Ederson so it’s unlikely they’ll be in the market for another goalkeeper any time soon.
