England Star Signs New Three And A Half Year Contract With Manchester City

Manchester City and England Women centre-back Alex Greenwood has signed a new contract with the Citizens keeping her at the club until 2026.

The 29-year-old joined City from Lyon in the summer of 2020 and she has racked up 80 appearances for the Women’s Super League side since then.

Greenwood has won both the FA Cup and the League Cup following her return to England, and she played a key role in helping her country win the Euros earlier this year.

Reacting after putting pen to paper on her new three-and-a-half-year deal, the defender said she was delighted to extend her stay at City as she has a good working relationship with manager Gareth Taylor:

“I’m really pleased to have my new deal sorted and it’s come at the perfect time. After a strong first half to the season, I can now just focus on the remainder of the campaign and the next three years.

“Feeling settled at a club for me is so important and I absolutely have that here at City, which is why I’ve signed such a long-term deal – I just love being here.”

“I have a really good relationship with (City manager) Gareth (Taylor). The way he wants us to play marries up exactly with how I want to personally, so it’s the perfect match for me.”

As Greenwood mentions, City have had a decent start to the season although they are already eight points behind leaders Chelsea in the WSL table heading into the winter break. They will be looking to make up ground when the campaign resumes next month.
